Like most of the man in my family, weight has never been an issue, well unless I consider the "under-side". Though with the constantly changing values, even "skinny" me is now probably close to the ideal BMI. BUT my long lean torso could be a case study in the recipe for back issues. Almost 10 years ago now, I got tired on the repeated strains and got serious about strengthening my core.

Going to the gym 3X a week, weight machines, cardio, swimming, seems to have been the magic bullet! Extra bonus: Putting some tone in these skiinny boy muscles, or what one lady friend calls my "swimmer's body". (GAWD I love hearing that from her!!).

I love working out. I am in the gym 5 times a week. You feel great during the workout!
Work out and just take it easy on you back, no matter what type of classes or weights you are working with. Have fun!!

I must say that is some extensive workout. I was always curious to how many exercises you could do with an exercise ball like that and now I know. Thank you for the education

I've always been a firm believer of using ones own body weight for exercise routines...A friend recently asked for advice about signing up for a gym franchise...I told him to first ask his PCP about entering into a exercise program...He's got diabetes tendencies and is working on it through diet and exercise...The best way to control it...I told him he's got one of the best resources in the world in a mutual friend who happens to be a personal trainer/body builder...She is a inspiration to me and always has good advice...Be it nutrition or exercise...Gyms are all well and good but IMHO not the best way to reach your goals...

Wanting, it seems like i'm always late I'll blame it on work since I work 12 hr. nights. We do have much in common I shattered L3 and 4 in my lower back in 1997. I finally had to have surgery in Dec of 1998 I am fused from L3 to 5 in the front and L2 to L5 in the back. I've had multiple surgeries so I refuse to have any more. I am a big fan of ice and Motrin. The Motrin is an NSAID they work great the only other drug I'll take for my back is Naprosyn. I have to stretch out just as you do. I'd like to try Yoga but I wonder if I can because of the fusions. Sciatica pain can be caused by many things. There are many treatments for it as well. Hopefully you won't have to have surgery. You should be afraid to have surgery and don't take it lightly. Make sure if you decide you need it that you do your homework and really check them out. I hope you never have to go through what I have. It sounds like you have a good grip on things which is great.

I have also lost family members as well both of my parents, and 3 of my best friends all with in 3 years. It's had but with friends and family you make it through it.

May I please ask a favor of you? Can you please email me the exercises you show using the ball. I can send you my email address in a separate email ok.

In your words "May your days and nights be filled with inner peace, passionate love, and great joy"

Hugs, John

It's good to hear that you are contented with your life. You have been through so much but you've definitely come out on top.
I have to watch what I eat because of high cholesterol that runs in the family.

I have owned a thousand pounds of weights for over 30 years and I use them year in and year out. The gym is small with three main stations but those are versatile stations. I run country roads with wonderful views. I also do some martial arts too. 2015 I did two bad lifts at the dollar store; the second ended my working at all. Early in 2016 I had spine surgery; when the doc said it was ok to start back with all that I use to do. I did and have progressed quite well but I am very careful still. I don’t know if it is an age thing or lack of wanting to or afraid to press my luck with the surgery but my effort level is a lot less than 2015 level. Eh, I am in the gym, on the road and back at the martial art fun.
Best wishes for your continued success. Don’t do that fall again!

I've considered doing the paleo thing, which has some similarities with what you describe. I need bigger rocks around here, though. I also have specific things I need to train for. Paleo is great for overall fitness, I think, bug I have a specific event to train for.

I was referring to the paleo workout. I have one diet rule; as unprocessed as possible. I have to stay away from certain things, like dairy, pomegranates, grapefruit, and star fruit. One for the allergy, the rest are specific to people like me.

The paleo thing is supposed to be a lifestyle. Simple eating, simple workouts. Workouts are basically what workout would a paleolithic human do if he had time to work out rather than run for food or run from being food. Throw things, pick up things, drag things. And run. Sticks and rocks and branches. All functional movements.
