It's here, everybody.

To view the page, amend blog/?celltype=trending_blogs to the site URL after logging in. For example...

http://www.AdultFriendFinder.com/blog/?celltype=trending_blogs

Or if you're on Passion, http://www.Passion.com/blog/?celltype=trending_blogs

So take a look, test out the links, and let us know what you think.

Okay, but seriously, no fighting please.

I think most of us here are prepared for the anticipated change to the blog main page. If you're not yet prepared, I'm here to inform you that we will soon be seeing a very different design on this page.

As I shared in the last blog post regarding this topic, we've been working on a two-column design for the new page. Basically, what we've been used to for so long is getting a huge make-over. Some will like it, others may not. We do hope most will like it, of course. I truly think this is a good design that takes into account a lot of members' concerns.

We've been paying very close attention to the issue of blog ranking and essentially how activity is displayed in the current blog design. It's quite cluttered, and the design behind the 'Most Active Blogs' list has inadvertently created a self-perpetuating leaderboard. Our aim with the upcoming design is not just to provide you all a fresh interface, but mostly to give you a somewhat customizable display of the all the blogs this community has to offer: blogs you currently read, and those you haven't yet found.

Aside from all the current lists you find on the page now (i.e. Active Recent Posts, Newly Created Blogs, Most Active Male Blogs, etc), you'll find links to Random Posts and Trending Posts. If you don't prefer the new look, there will be a link to Classic View as well, so you can view the blog page the way it looks now.

Click here to view a mockup of the new page:
Blog Page

You'll get to select which list appears on the blog page. One thing we're considering implementing is an "On/Off" toggle for the lists, so you can have as many or as few open as you wish at any given time.

Take a look and see if you feel this is a good design and if it reflects a majority of your suggestions and addresses your concerns.

Let's please keep this post devoid of bickering. We here really do not mind disagreements and understand the importance of these issues to you, but the fighting is not beneficial for any of us. People should be able to disagree and discuss their disagreements like adults, without spiraling into 'drama.'

The Blogs They Are a-Changin'

The Blog mainpage, that is.

But first, we need your input!

When we brought up the possibility of a rotating active bloggers list and posted a poll, there was an overwhelming amount of support for this proposed change. In our Rotating Active Blogs List thread, there were lots of great ideas of how to address this particular issue and highlight the lesser known bloggers and their work. This is a tough one to tackle, because we want to expose great content, but allow everyone a level-playing field for garnering a wider audience.

Every online platform for content currently has an area that displays a list of what posts/videos/pictures are currently trending or popular-- and these sections are constantly updated. Our blog main page highlighted users with the most comments only, but never allowed their popularity to decay, causing a static leaderboard that alienated other bloggers with an audience. After listening to your feedback, this is what we've decided would be most beneficial for all bloggers in this community, providing them a fair opportunity to build an audience and spotlight their work:

Keep in mind this is still in the design process, but this is a general mockup of where we are headed:
The blog mainpage will become two large columns: 1 for What's Hot/Trending Now and 2 What's New.

Follow this link >>> http://AdultFriendFinder.com/blog_test <<< [REMOVE THE SPACE AFTER 'ADULT' or ADDITIONAL .COM] to our Blog Sorting Experiment test to see six different sorting options for the What's Hot column.

This list will update regularly; nothing will remain static. Newly submitted posts will rank higher than older, so older posts will decay over time.

What we believe is necessary is leveling out the playing field-- still allowing well-known bloggers to shine, while uncovering and exposing the hidden gems in the blogosphere.

Take a look at the different sorting options, and let's start a discussion about which you all feel has the best capability of exposing a variety of bloggers-- while uncovering quality content that you want to see at the same time.

In line with our current discussion about rotating our leaderboard to expose more of our great writers in the community, we're looking for members interested in showcasing their writing to a broader audience.

Do you have an erotic story that would make men and women alike melt into a fiery puddle? Did you recently post an article on the Advice Lines that you're nearly certain would bring about pure harmony in all relationships? Or perhaps you just posted a poll that rivals Gallup's significance in history and reporting...

Maybe we can help you get there. We have over 100,000 followers across our social media pages. We're looking for all kinds of sex-positive stories, polls, or Advice Line posts from our cunning linguists, sensual scribes, and witty wordsmiths!

If you have any writing you'd like to share with our audience, drop me a line here or email community@ffn.com.

Many of you have brought up a rotating 'Active Blogs' list on the Blogs homepage. Currently, the list remains static, highlighting blogs with most unique responses.

Below is a poll to gauge whether community members prefer to have the list rotate, or remain static as it is.

Would you like to see the list regularly rotate between active bloggers?
Yes, I would like to see a rotating list.
No, the list should remain static.
I don't care either way.

‘All Messages' toggle added to Message Center
Posted:Apr 30, 2013 5:01 pm
Last Updated:May 10, 2013 3:03 pm

After rolling out the recent set of Message Center filters, we listened to your feedback and are including some changes based on the comments you shared.

An 'All Messages' toggle has been included in your message filters. 'All Messages' includes all the incoming and outgoing messages in your mailbox-- the total set of all the detailed folders. This setting will be the default for all users, and you can choose to further customize what you see by choosing the other filters available to you. The customized filters or other toggles won’t be the default setting any more. It’ll always reset back to show 'All Messages.'

In the next phase, all sent and received messages will also once again show the exact timestamp rather than the relative time. The timestamp will appear inside messages while the left panel will show you the date (i.e. 4/30/13). Members should expect to see exact timestamps in the near future.

'My Lists' Poll

We need your suggestions. We’re renaming the ‘My Lists’ section of the site to put all the people who Hotlist you, Flirt with you, and view your profile in one convenient area.

We’ll also consolidate all the people you Flirt, Hotlist, and view so you have easy access to that.

We're looking for your ideas on what you feel those two sections should be called. Some ideas so far are My Admirers/People I Admire, Members Who (I Like/Like Me), or Who (I'm Checking Out/Checking Me Out).

What are your thoughts and suggestions?

Update:
Here is the proposed dropdown menu

'Profile I viewed' is a brand new link, and all these links will be available for all users.

This added section is to keep track of your personal activities history beyond just who you have hotlisted, ie. history of profiles you have viewed.

Updated Message Center Filtering

Last Updated:Sep 4, 2013 4:24 pm

We will be updating the message center filters today for 10% of AdultFriendFinder users.

This update offers members more customization when organizing their conversations with others.

Some differences you will see:

*Display conversations based on your own preference
*Search the full text of messages to quickly locate conversations
*Search the full text of your messages to quickly locate your favorite conversations
*Create customized labels by selecting a conversation and clicking on the 'Label as' button
*Use the Select button for mass actions like deleting or sending the same reply to several messages

How to customize what you see in your Message Center:

The Show menu allows you to choose the conversations you want to view every time you come to Message Center. You can choose a different option and it will be saved as your new default. The numbers in parentheses indicate the count of unread messages you have in each option:

Active Conversations – Messages you have received from other members or messages you have received a reply on. This is the default setting. Under Active Conversations, you can further filter the list by ‘Important’ or ‘Others’.

Important – Members that are your Cupid Matches, Friends, in your Hotlist, or VIP members
Others – Members that are not in the above 4 categories

Pending Conversations – Members who have not replied to your message yet

Personal Labels – These are the customized labels you can create and add any messages you receive

With each Show option, you can further sort the list by using the Type dropdown:

Unread – Conversations with any messages that you have not read
Read – Conversations with all messages that you have read
Replied – Conversations in which you are the last person to reply
Unreplied – Conversations with messages that you have not replied to yet

Your feedback is important, so feel free to share what you think of the revised MC filtering system.

Content Filter Update

Males and couples will not experience a change in their filter settings -- they default to 'Nasty,' the same as the previous 'OFF.' Female members will default to 'Naughty,' but can easily change this setting to 'Nasty' or 'Nice.'

We are not censoring any content on the site. Our previous filters were just 'Off' and 'On'-- 'Off' showing you all content, and 'On' showing you only Pg and Pg-13 rated content. The only new setting is 'Naughty,' which lets you see almost everything, except that is places a filter over photos that are rated as 'genital shot' (close-ups of genitalia). This is just an extra option allowing users to filter what they see to suit their comfort level, and in no way affects the Nice (ON) or Nasty (OFF) filters. Prior to the change, many users expressed an interest in having this third option to view sexy content without the blatant genital close-ups.

To users who have complained of seeing a blank screen when they update their settings, we are sending you an email to your registered email address to assist you with this issue. This occurs if you're using an older browser that doesn't support overlays well. The spinner interferes and freezes up the page. We are removing the overlay and the spinner to prevent this from happening.

Users who mention their settings revert back when you try to change your settings, it's because your settings are not being saved fully. We are adding a visual confirmation that will let you know if the change was a success or failed (in which case, just go back to the settings page and update again).

As always, we recommend using the latest version of your preferred browser for the best experience.

As some of you may or may not know, AdultFriendFinder Founder Andrew has reunited with our team to help bring some much needed improvements to different areas of the site.

You can follow his blog here, Andrew, where you'll find lots of information about upcoming changes and projects, straight from the source.

He's pushed back the "mandatory" switch (March 1st) to a new design by two weeks to give time to improve it. To take part in the conversation about the Main Page, check out his recent post Some thoughts about the main page your feedback requested and share your thoughts and concerns.

Thanks, everyone!
